HISTORY AND INFORMATION
The Trans-America Sidebanders were formed originally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1970, a second branch was formed in the Panama Canal Region in 1977. Ed Campbell, TA 1, (A Sgt. in the Air Force), And a number of other sideband enthusiasts started the branch in Panama. They had members numbered up to 300. He said "he never dreamed it would become as large as it is now". We still recognize the original 300 members by retaining the first three hundred numbers of the Roster for their behalf, if and when they want to reinstate their original TA numbers they are welcome to do so.
Virginia Egland, TA 591, of Bakersfield California did a super job leading the ever growing TA Radio Group for many years. After the passing of Virginia -- Jeff TA 2065 took over control of the TA Radio Group. In 1993 Jeff decided to recruit an assistant to help him with all the tasks of running the Radio Group. Jeff called upon member of five years TA 3861 -- Myron, a New York State net controller. a couple years later the group elected a board of directors to govern the TA Radio Group. This Board of Directors is now the sole governing body of the TA Radio Group. The board consists of a panel of eight board members , a chairman of the board, and a Vice Chairman. [listed later in the text] these positions are appointed by the board members, and are changed periodically. With the board and all the net controllers all over the country the TA Radio Group is able and will continue to grow ever bigger and better.
